Hello! How is it going?

This is not a food-related post, but it popped up on my feed this morning, and I have been thinking about it ever since. No matter how I decide to begin this blog post, I keep going back to that article. This line especially haunts me- “I don’t want to take time to be fancier, I want to be more basic.” So I am giving in and sharing it here in my Weekly Musings section.

Alright now, back to business. Have you ever wondered what a continental breakfast actually is? I haven’t either. So this article really breaks it down for us. The title made me wonder why the question was not asked before considering the fact that continental breakfasts are everywhere.

When I was working on my piece on sustainability across the food value chain, I remember one of the experts I had interviewed asked me- “How would you sustain a depleting resource?”. He was talking about our soil, and how it needs our immediate attention. Dirt Poor: Have Fruits and Vegetables Become Less Nutritious? looks into soil depletion and its impact on what we eat. The article quotes-

“What can be done? The key to healthier produce is healthier soil. Alternating fields between growing seasons to give land time to restore would be one important step. Also, foregoing pesticides and fertilizers in favor of organic growing methods is good for the soil, the produce and its consumers. Those who want to get the most nutritious fruits and vegetables should buy regularly from local organic farmers.”

We have all read about the farmer’s march, but this Facebook post by Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar highlights some important points that we need to think and talk about.

This article on urban agriculture.

And finally, this cake and this cake takes cake art to a whole new level.
