Who says only Pizza should reach you within 30 mins? Abhineet Kumar, Anurag Singh, Nishu Kumar and their team at rocketfood are trying to challenge this notion . We caught up with this team to find out more.
The idea of a venture that provides consistent and standardized delivery option of meals came to Abhineet after his internship in Washington D.C, followed by his brief stint in the food industry. Abhineet shared his ideas with Anurag his friend since school, and before they knew they moved to Ghaziabad to turn this idea into the venture it is today.
The team at rocketfood believes home delivered food should be an enjoyable experience, and that is what they aim to give their customers. At rocketfood, the food is available on a per serving basis. This novel concept minimizes wastage, and at the same time also makes it value for money. As rocketfood rightly points out, it also gives their customers the option of ordering gravies suited to each person’s taste during orders for a group. A quick look at the menu shows that it has everything from quick bytes, to comfort meals, to restaurant style options. The limited choices enable quick ordering for the customer and also give rocketfood control over the delivery, which is why your food reaches you as fast as your pizza does.
If that is the amount of thought they have put into the food, you can just imagine how much planning would have gone into the other aspects of this venture. One of the key issues that rocketfood wanted to address was how the food is delivered. Having personal experiences themselves with gravies placed in bags, making it not very convenient to transfer or to consume as such, they came up with their own packaging/delivery system. The food comes in a box with your breads rolled out into aluminum foils, and individual gravies/rice in gravy bowls.
One of the biggest priorities for rocketfood is to make sure your food gets delivered on time. The team did its ground work understanding the geography of the area they operate in. Initial preparation of the food is done in their centralized kitchen at Indirapuram, from where they are transferred to the local distribution facilities. Further preparation and packaging is done here. The delivery radius is kept within 4 km and all the delivery staff are well versed with the local routes. This detailed delivery plan is what gets your food within 30 mins.
When they first started, Abhineet and Anurag introduced the concept to their neighbors, knocking on their doors and telling them about rocketfood. Word soon spread around, and today they get almost 60 orders a day giving “fast” food to ~200 people on a daily basis. The team has also grown to a total of 20 members on board.
rocketfood strongly believes that eating is an experience that goes beyond the food itself. This is why they insist on a clean kitchen among the staff, delivering food on time and making sure the food containers are user friendly. Apart from all this you will also find thank you notes with your order which say something like “loved cooking for you”. As they say, it is the experience that counts.
rocketfood currently delivers in Indirapuram, Vaishali, Vasundhara and Noida. They are also planning to have food carts outside colleges/offices where food can be bought right away for a quick meal. As always, the team will continue to focus on effective delivery and scale up to newer locations.
Abhineet was bitten by the startup bug right from his college days, when he started a small digital marketing venture. So when we asked for advice to future entrepreneurs it was no surprise that he said, “start working on your dream today”. They strongly believe in having the right people, which makes all the difference. rocketfood tries to create a positive work ambience and they have the numbers to prove it. 90% of the staff they started with are still with them, sharing the ups and downs. The team will also not hesitate to tell you that it is a lot of hardwork when you start one. They are up at 4:00 am every day, and by the time they finish the last of the orders and check the kitchens, it is past midnight.
